"Haters"
________________________________________________________________

The New York
Comedy Club ignited when the first three installments of “Haters” hit the
stage. As the audience packed into the spot, they could only imagine what they
were in for. Beginning with an interpretive poem, “You Got Jokes” by the
crazily hilarious, Jomo Kellman, this
Hate-Fest began with a bang. He started the crowd wailing with laughter and
then came “Straight Up Gossip”, an exploration in couple hating directed
by Tawfiq about the limits of trust in a man/woman
relationship. This one act’s sultry striptease beginning had the audience
revved up towards a tumultuous and scandalous ending of which I won’t divulge,
you’ll have to
see it for yourself!
Next up was Lazaro Viciedo’s, “Who Hated It? A Hate Mystery”. Cleverly written, the piece spiced up your average mystery with pantomime, subtitles and of course murder. Stand out performances were Joshua Ritter, who kept the show moving with his dry humor and caught in the middle persona. After intermission, Natural performed spoken word in the “Return of the Printz of Poets; Battle Of Da Slam” and in his usual fashion brought down the house. The audience was so impressed with his wordage that they demanded a return of which we must oblige. The final part of this fantastic Hate-athon was “Haters; Could You Please Be Quiet” directed by Ah-Keisha McCants. This proved to be the highlight of the show delving into the hilarity of racism and ignorance. Not your typical comedy, there were so many one-liners the audience didn’t have a chance to breath because the jokes were just that insanely funny.
