Lanré Idewu
Lanré is already an established Actor. He was born Olanrewaju Adebayo Idewu in Abeokuta, Nigeria and was raised on the south side of Chicago. He went to the University of Iowa, where he received his formal theatre training. As a Biochemistry/Premed major, he found acting to be a wonderful creative release from the tedious and sometimes mind-numbing practice of the sciences. There, he appeared in such productions as “The Colored Museum,” “Soldier’s Play” and the stage production of the soon to be blockbuster hit “The Bow-Wow Club” by Levy Lee Simon.
After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry and minor in German (yes, German) Lanré began studying for the MCAT and applying for medical school. During this process, he appeared in several local plays and realized that his true love was in acting. Lanré worked as a mental health professional in the social services to support himself as he pursued his love. He worked on his first independent film, a soon to be released suspense thriller entitled “The Disappearance of Donnie Bishop” by Bold Soul Productions and appeared on Warner Brothers’ “ElimiDATE” television show.
As of March 2002, he decided to pursue the craft full time and has since done several commercials, opened Malik Yoba’s “What’s on the Hearts of Men” with his original poetry, performed in several comedic skits at Chicago’s famous Second City Theatre with a show called “Nommo Remote Control,” and is currently rehearsing for the second part of the NAACP Theatre Arts award-winning play “For the Love of Freedom” with Danny Glover’s Robey Theatre Group in Los Angeles.
Lanré is a very driven, focused and passionate actor who has been described as “fun and easy to work with” and an actor who “Takes direction very well.” He would like to thank God and his family for their never-ending support. He would also like to thank Neema Barnette, Reed McCants and Live Theatre Gang for being a source of inspiration in their relentless pursuit of making it happen and for being so down-to-earth. He is honored to be a part of the gang.
