Ain’t
Nothing Like Great Comedians
After a successful stint at the Connecticut Comedy Festival, LTG’s hit comedy
play, “Great Comedians Of Color” received a warm welcoming back to New York this
past Labor Day weekend. Although it was a rainy Sunday, that didn’t stop the
sun from shining on the stars of the show, as they kicked their performances up
a notch with new additions and classic jokes. Lighting up the stage were
comedians,
Dark Gable Most as Redd Foxx, Joey Grant as Richard Pryor,
Eric
Thomas as Bill Cosby, newcomer to the Gang Uncle Jimmy Mac as Moms Mabley and
actor Tawfiq as the Legendary Bert Williams. Audience members howled with
laughter at the dead on impersonations and poignant messages that make “Great
Comedians” more than just a comic revue. The show was definitely an exciting
and wonderful tribute to the folks of comedy whose Labor and Love is often
trivialized in the world of Bling Blings and Pookie Buttas (See the show and
you’ll know what I’m talking about). Always right on time and extremely
hysterical, “Great Comedians of Color” continues to live up to its title and
beyond. It’s simply great!
But the fun didn’t end there because following “Great Comedians”, was the Second Annual Hilarious Poets Contest hosted by Michelle Seabreeze, Nacinimod Deodee and Eric Thomas. With a mixture of poetry, comedy and skits, the contest proved to live up to its title, keeping the audience laughing and guessing what craziness would happen next. Performers included David Waugh, Black Pearl, Jerry Lo, Jomo Kellman, Poet Mark among others. The hosts, kept the show moving with their own poems and rounded the show out with the funny yet poignant skit, “American Reparations Idol”, you just had to see it! Voted by the audience, the winner of the competition was Poet Jerry Lo.
